Why Is This Important?
Quality afterschool programs support improvements in school engagement and academic outcomes. According to an evaluation conducted by the University of Utah, Education Policy Center, afterschool programs implemented in schools serving high rates of children experiencing intergenerational poverty showed improvements on the DIBELS test, a literacy test administered to students.
Explanation for the Indicator
At this time, afterschool programs are not identifying the students participating in their programs such that the participant data can be matched with either the intergenerational poverty data or academic outcome data.
