Why Is This Important?
An important factor in health child development is stable housing. When children live in stable housing they develop social relationships with peers, cultivate a sense of community and most important, experience stability in their educational environment. Although a move to a new home may be beneficial for a child and her family, frequent moves cause disruption in a child's life and frequently leads to poor academic performance and increasing high school dropout rates.
Explanation for the Indicator
This indicator is compiled based on the number of address changes a family receiving public assistance reports to the Utah Department of Workforce Services in the reporting calendar year. The target percent is based on the U.S. Census indicator reporting the percent of all Utahns who moved at least once in the reporting year.
