Why Is This Important?
Research demonstrates that as the rate of parents covered by health insurance increases, children are more likely to receive medical care. Adults with health insurance are more likely to bring their child to a doctor on a regular basis. As a result, the increased participation of public health insurance among parents may result in increased health utilization for their children.
Explanation for the Indicator
The increase in the rate of adults covered by health insurance may be partially attributable to changes in public health insurance, including enactment of the Affordable Care Act and extended open enrollment in Utah's Primary Care Network.
