Why Is This Important?
Quality afterschool programs support improvements in school engagement and academic outcomes. According to an evaluation conducted by the University of Utah, Education Policy Center, afterschool programs implemented in schools serving high rates of children experiencing intergenerational poverty showed improvements on the DIBELS test, a literacy test administered to students.
Explanation for the Indicator
This indicator represents the percentage of schools with high rates of IGP (i.e. where at least 10 percent of the student population is experiencing intergenerational poverty) that offer an afterschool program.
