Suicide is a serious public health problem that results in the premature death of an indivudual and can have lasting harmful effects on families, and communities. While its causes are complex and determined by multiple factors, the goal of suicide prevention is to reduce factors that increase risk and increase factors that promote resilience.

Suicide rates in Ohio have been on the rise across the state. From 2007 to 2018: suicide deaths increased 44.8%, from 1,268 to 1,836. the age‐adjusted suicide rate increased 40.7%, from 10.8 to 15.2 deaths per 100,000 people.
