What is this about?
This indicator uses the total amount of pure alcohol sold in Jersey each year to calculate the volume of alcohol consumed per resident aged 15 years or older (accounting for tourists and seasonal workers) for comparison with the United Kingdom and other Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development member countries.
In 2022, Jersey’s mean average per capita consumption was 12 litres of pure alcohol per person aged 15 or older. The level of per capita consumption has remained fairly constant over recent years after a steady reduction from 2000 to 2013 . The current level of consumption equates to approximately 2.6 bottles of wine or 8.1 pints of strong beer or over half a bottle of spirits per week and is in excess of the NHS current recommended guidelines of 14 units per week (approximately 1.6 bottles of wine or 5 pints of strong beer).
