Children Looked After is the term used to describe children and young people who are in the care of the Minister and they are looked after by Children’s Social Care Services. Children in care are supported by social workers, residential care workers and/or foster carers. This indicator provides a snapshot of the number of 'Children Looked After' on 31st December each year.
After some years of reducing numbers, in 2022, the numbers of looked after children increased slightly to 78 before continuing on its downward trend to 61 at end 2023. Jersey's rate of Children Looked After is low, with 34 out of every 10,000 children in Jersey looked at the end of 2023, compared with 71 in England (in March 2023).
