What is this about?
This data is collected using the Schools Survey, which is open to all pupils in Years 6, 8, 10 and 12. Respondents are asked if they have been bullied at or near school in the last 12 months. This indicator tracks the proportion of children in Years 6, 8 and 10 who say they have been bullied.
Over the last decade, about one in four children in Years 6, 8 and 10 have consistently reported being afraid of going to school at least sometimes because of bullying. This is consistent with the proportion who report being bullied. The proportion of children who report being afraid 'often' or 'very often' has also remained at about 5%. Of children who reported having been bullied, 51% said their school usually or always took bullying seriously compared to 68% of children who hadn't been bullied.
