What is this about?

The Jersey Child Measurement Programme (JCMP) is the surveillance programme in Jersey where all eligible children in Reception year (children aged 4-5 years) and Year 6 (children aged 10-11 years) are offered the opportunity to have their heights and weights measured. A child’s weight status is then determined using an age and sex specific centile for Body Mass Index (BMI). Individuals are categorised as either ‘underweight’, ‘healthy weight’, ‘overweight’, ‘obese’ or ‘severely obese’.

This indicator measures the percentage of children aged 10-11 years in Year 6 of primary schools who are categorised as Heathy weight. In the 2022/2023 academic year over two in three (68%) of eligible Year 6 aged children had height and weight measurements that classified them as having a healthy weight. While there are some fluctuations in prevalence, the proportion of children classified as healthy weight has remained relatively stable since 2011.
