What is this about?

Unemployment is a widely recognised measure of labour market performance and economic conditions. The best indicator is the internationally comparable rate of unemployment, as defined by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), which measures the proportion of people registered as unemployed, as well as those not registered but still seeking work. Jersey's ILO unemployment rate is measured through census data, but as this is only collected every ten years, this indicator uses the average number of people registered as Actively Seeking Work (ASW) each year as an alternative. The indicator is not a formal unemployment rate, but it is indicative of trends and needs to be interpreted carefully.

This data is sourced from the Monthly Acitvely Seeking Work Statistics and averaged for the specific year using the non seasonally adjusted figures.
