This data is collected using the Jersey Opinions and Lifestyle Survey which surveys a representative sample of adults in Jersey. Respondents are asked: 'Overall, how satisfied are you with your current housing?' and can answer very satisfied; fairly satisfied; not very satisfied; or, not at all satisfied. The indicator focuses on the response from residents of St Helier.
Overall, 94% of St Helier residents reported being very satisfied or fairly satisfied with their housing in 2018, with 49% being very satisfied. Across Jersey, by comparison, 96% of adults reported being very or fairly satisfied with their housing, but 64% were very satisfied. Given that St Helier is home to over a third of Jersey's population, the ambition should be that new developments and the refurbishment of existing housing stock in the town should help improve performance against this indicator over time.
According to figures from the Office for National Statistics, 58.9% of residents in England report being 'very satisfied' with their housing and this has remained largely unchanged over the last decade.
