What is this about?
This indicator tracks the change in average earnings in Jersey's finance sector over time, taking into account the effect of inflation. It is presented as an index set at 100 in 2013 so that the change in the real value of earnings can be compared by allowing for inflation. The 2020 figures should be seen in the context of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the sector and inflation.
Average weekly earnings in the financial services sector were £1,080 per full-time equivalent employees in 2020. Average earnings (excluding bonuses) in the sector rose by 2.1% in 2020 which was higher than the increase seen in June 2019 (1.8%) but below the preceding 5-year average of 2.7% per year. Allowing for inflation, average earnings in the sector increased by about 1.7% in real terms.
