Why Is This Important?
The purpose of investing in high-quality early care and education is to close achievement gaps that exist between low-income children and their more affluent peers. The measure utilized to indicate whether the achievement gap is reduced is often whether children entering kindergarten are kindergarten ready.
This indicator is being measured utilizing a new tool developed by the Utah State Board of Education. The tool, "Kindergarten Entry & Exit Profile," will be utilized beginning in the 2017-2018 school year. As a result, a baseline is not available in the 2017 reporting year.
