Jan 2025

The TVHC Coalition team hosted a pop-up event during Chabot College’s Orientation Week on January 22–23. During the event, CHOWS educated students about the free clinic services available on campus and at TVHC clinics throughout Alameda County. In addition to promoting health services, the team raised awareness about the dangers of opioid use, particularly the risks associated with fentanyl-laced drugs. Students who requested it received Narcan, a life-saving medication for opioid overdoses. To make the event engaging, students participated in interactive games like Spin the Wheel and Tic-Tac-Toe for a chance to win TVHC swag, travel/tote bags with hygiene essentials, or grocery store gift cards. Through this tabling series, the team successfully connected with and engaged 68 youth/students, fostering awareness, safety, and community support.

Additionally, the team partnered with the Hayward Unified School District to participate in the Families United Conference, an event focused on strengthening families through learning and connection. The conference featured free workshops, a keynote speaker, a resource fair, and various engaging activities for attendees. During the Families United Conference, our team provided information about TVHC’s comprehensive health and wellness services, as well as assistance with accessing programs such as CalFresh and Medi-Cal. Attendees also received tote bags and self-care supplies. Through this event, our team connected with and provided resources to 47 youth participants, supporting community wellness and access to essential services.

Outreach April, May and June 2024

On April TVHC hosted it's 2nd annual Spring into Summer Health Fair. We also continued doing our door-to-door outreach at priority zip codes. This outreach continued at it's regular capacity (3 days a week) on May but slowed down in June because the Coalition Promotoras started dedicating one outreach day to the Photovoice project. Additionally, Coalition CHOWs attended two partner heath fairs in June.

Outreach Dec. 2023

On December 2nd, TVHC hosted its annual Holiday Fair at the Weekes Community Center, catering to 300+ attendees with a plethora of community resources and enjoyable activities. The event featured the participation of 15+ organizations, including our grant partners and other entities, all contributing valuable resources to the attendees. TVHC distributed over 100 children's toys, 50 bags of dry food, and 100 diapers to community members. Furthermore, flu and COVID-19 vaccines were administered during the event. The overall success of this occasion marked it as a valuable opportunity for community members to access essential resources.

Outreach November 10, 2023

Promotoras Guadalupe Perez, Silvia Santos, Beatriz Gomez-Jimenez, and Carmen Higuera were tabling at Yeyo's Super Mercado in Hayward 94544 when they were verbally assaulted and demeaned by a physically intimidating, angry large man. He spit at them and broke a glass bottle at their feet. He accused them of not being from nor knowing the area they were in, including California & the USA. The Promotoras contacted 911 and a Hayward Police Officer eventually came however the man was already across the street. The PO took the man away, albeit not handcuffed, and also did not come to take account from the Promotoras nor any of the other witnesses. They have since been seen by TVHC counselors and also contacted Mayor Mark Salinas as the Police Officer was not helpful in filing a report. There are more details noted by TVHC BH team clinicians.
