Story Behind the Curve
Healthy For Life is an evidence-based nutrition and well-being program, developed by the American Heart Association, geared towards educating people on healthy food, nutrition, and lifestyle choices. In November 2022, the Onslow County Health Department started offering online Healthy for Life classes to the general public. Classes are advertised on social media and the Health Department's website. Interested persons can join the classes using the link posted on the Health Department's website; no registration required. Classes are held twice per month (same topic) and attendance will vary based on the public's interest in the topic covered that month.
The Health Department desires to increase participation each month to ensure community members have access to free, convenient, online classes to help improve their health and well-being. However, since there is no registration required, Onslow County Health Department is unable to know how many people will be attending the class. Women Infant and Children (WIC) will refer clients to Healthy For Life classes if the services they are able to offer are not meeting the client's needs. These referrals are not consistent, so they may help some month's participation rates.
