Excessive absenteeism has become a major problem since virtual learning during the covid pandemic. For many youth getting back into the routine of attending school proved challenging. When the school system referred youth to the Teen Court Program many of them started attending school on a regular basis and the school withdrew the referral.

Sometimes just a referral to the Teen Court Program which is judge and jury of their peers is enough for youth to start attending school regularly.

Not all referrals for excessive absenteeism will result in the youth coming to Teen Court. If the youth starts attending school regulary the school will withdraw the referral.
