Story Behind the Curve

What is the Story Behind the Curve:

Factors pushing up the trendline?

  • Establishing a school-based screening program.
  • Using passive consent forms for KOHA screenings.
  • Establishing relationships with the schools and school nurses in our counties.
  • Partnership with our RDHAP conducting screenings.

Factors pushing down the trendline?

  •  Lack of schools signing up for KOHA screenings.
  • Parents opting out of the screenings.
  • Lack of urgency by school districts.
  • Nonparticipation of school nurses in monthly meetings to stay up to date on KOHA processes.

Factors causing disparities?

  •  Lack of dental providers in El Dorado and Alpine County
  • Lack of specialty care for children with severe oral health needs in both counties.
  • Lack of transportation.
  • Lack of efficient referral system
