What is this about?
This data is collected using the Jersey Opinions and Lifestyle Survey (JOLS) which surveys a representative sample of adults in Jersey. Its purpose is to track attendance at cultural events, so respondents are asked how often they have attended a range of different cultural events in the last 12 months, including the cinema, theatre, live music, dance, art exhibitions and readings.
In 2022, 71% of adults had attended one or more of the listed cultural events at least once in the last 12 months. Attendance of any of the listed cultural events decreased with age, from 80% of 35 to 44-year-olds, to 57% of those aged 65+ years. Watching films at the cinema was the most popular cultural event, with 57% of adults visiting at least once in the last 12 months.
The JOLS question used to obtain this data has only been asked once to-date, but going forward will be asked on a regular basis in order to establish a trend over time.
