Description
A Matter of Balance (MOB) is designed to reduce the fear of falling and improve activity levels among older adults. The program is delivered by two trained coaches and includes eight two-hour classes presented to a small group of 8-12 participants. The classes help reduce the fear of falling by learning to view falls as controllable, setting goals for increasing activity levels, making small changes to reduce fall risks at home, and providing exercise to increase strength and balance. The curriculum includes group discussions, problem-solving together, role-playing activities, exercise training, assertiveness training, and a few homework assignments. This program targets adults who have started to restrict their activity levels due to a concern about falling. These older adults are able problem solve, may have fallen in the past, and live independently in the community. This program is available in person and online.
