As the designated coordinating agency for substance abuse services in Macomb County, the Office of Substance Abuse (MCOSA) is responsible for determining the need for services through needs assessments, public comments, and utilization reviews. MCOSA also coordinates substance use treatment, prevention, and recovery services, and contracts for services with licensed and accredited programs (MCOSA does not provide treatment, recovery, or prevention services). They monitor progress, review trend data, evaluate services (through data system, billings, claims processing, site reviews, etc.), develop policy, establish technical assistance and training, and comment on licensing, among other supportive activities.  

The Macomb County Office of Substance Abuse subcontracts with community agencies to provide publicly-funded substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery services to people with Medicaid and others in Macomb County who qualify for publicly-funded treatment services.  MCOSA also provides services and supports for substance abuse treatment providers.  MCOSA is additionally an active partner in efforts and coalitions to prevent substance use.  To learn more, visit the MCOSA website at www.mcosa.net.

A division within the Prepaid Insurance Health Provider (PIHP) for substance abuse services in Macomb County, MCOSA is responsible for planning, funding, monitoring and coordinating substance use disorder prevention, recovery, and treatment services. These services are provided through contracts with community agencies that are licensed and accredited to provide substance abuse prevention, recovery, and treatment services.
