Why Is This Important?

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) or Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDS) are preventable, treatable, and some even cured. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) states that prevention and care of HIV/STD aims to eliminate the number of cases and deaths due to STDs. Through testing, we can identify what population are being affected at greater rates. This will allow us to take a look at the imbalance or disparities in STI rates and create better health outcomes for those populations.
