Methodology
The data captured in this Scorecard represents the number of families that have applied and have been determined eligible for child care financial assistance (CCFAP). Families can have multiple applications in a given month and therefore, the data below comes from a family's most up-to-date application for that month. For more information on the Vermont Child Care Financial Assistance Program, click here.
For CCFAP applications with protective service children, the household includes the child, who is the primary applicant, and the legal guardian. Other children may live in the household, but this information is not captured. This means all CCFAP protective service applications are a family size of 2. Since protective service is an income-exempt service need, the monthly countable income is automatically reported as $0 and will always fall under 175% of the Federal Poverty Level. To determine protective service family counts, refer to the CCFAP Family Service Need indicator.
CCFAP Family Size: The total number of families each month who fall under the given family size categories.
CCFAP Family Percentage of Federal Poverty Level (FPL): The total number of families each month who fall under the given percentage of the FPL. Countable income and family size are used to calculate a family's percentage of the FPL. This is done by comparing their income and family size to the effective guidelines to receive CCFAP. A family is counted under a certain FPL percentage if they do not exceed that percentage and are greater than the previous percentage. Example: If a family's calculated percentage of the FPL is 188%, they would be counted under the 200% category.
CCFAP Family Service Need: The total number of families each month who fall under the given primary family service need category.
