Why Is This Important?
In addition to tracking the total number of drug-related deaths, it is important to track indicators and other health effects of drug use in the county. This includes the number of opioid prescriptions dispensed, opioid-related hospitalizations, and opioid-related deaths.
The Substance Use Division of the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services created the Substance Use Disorder Data Repository that tracks the number of prescription opioids, opioid-related hospitalizations, and opioid-related deaths throughout the state of Michigan at the county level.
