Description
Access to primary healthcare services is an important component of achieving and maintaining good health. Improving access to care, especially for those without insurance, is a priority of Mecklenburg County Public Health. Therefore MCPH partners with federally qualified health centers and charitable clinics to provide financial resources to expand access to primary healthcare services for underserved populations.

2024 Progress
- Enhance the community’s capacity to provide primary care to uninsured and underinsured individuals and families
- As of December 2024, 65,489 newly eligible Mecklenburg County residents enrolled in Medicaid through expansion efforts.
- Strengthen and sustain expanded access to care partnerships
- In FY24, Mecklenburg County provided funding to 8 organizations including federally qualified health centers and charitable clinics expanding access to primary care services; Mecklenburg County and access to care partners established a core set of core performance indicators rooted in research to ensure quality and evidence-based best practice
