Program Summary
A mentoring program that works with youth age 11 to 21 to help them identify, develop, and attain educational and career goals to ensure long-term self-sufficiency and financial stability. Core components of the current curriculum include school support, volunteerism, personal enrichment, units on anger management and healthy relationships, and for the young adults, entrepreneurial business development and workforce skills like resume writing and interviewing. The program operates for approximately 20 hours per week, both on weekdays and weekends to meet the intensive and unique needs of these youth.
Target Population
Youth in Annapolis at risk for, or having, gang involvement with a focus on serving disconnected youth, and children and families impacted by incarceration, as well as to address trauma and ACES.
Referrals are made by the police, DJS, Annapolis Housing Authority, Systems of Care, CRICT teams and other partners in the Annapolis Collaborative for Change working to address youth gun and gang violence in Annapolis.
Promising Practice/Model/EBP Employed
Several units have been drawn from the ARISE evidence-based anti-violence curriculum for at-risk youth, and the National Gang Center’s gang prevention framework.
